New Facility to Enhance Drug Development and Manufacturing

Eli Lilly has announced a substantial $4.5 billion investment to establish an advanced pharmaceutical drug manufacturing and development facility in Lebanon, Indiana. Slated for completion in late 2027, the Lilly Medicine Foundry aims to intensify the manufacturing of medicines for clinical trials and innovate new drug production methods.

State and Economic Support

The project will receive significant support from Indiana’s government, including improvements to local infrastructure like roads, water, and electricity, and economic incentives tied to investment and job creation. While specific costs to taxpayers for these incentives were not disclosed, the facility underscores a strong partnership between the state and Eli Lilly.

Impact on Jobs and Local Economy

The facility is expected to generate 400 new jobs for highly skilled workers, including engineers, scientists, and technicians, reinforcing Indiana’s position as a center for science and technology. Governor Eric Holcomb praised Eli Lilly’s long-standing commitment to Indiana, highlighting its role in driving local innovation and global scientific advancements. Additionally, U.S. Commerce Secretary Gina Raimondo lauded the investment as pivotal for maintaining U.S. leadership in advanced manufacturing and innovation.

David A. Ricks, CEO of Eli Lilly, emphasized the facility’s role in enhancing the company’s infrastructure to expedite the delivery of next-generation medicines globally. This initiative is part of Lilly’s broader commitment to U.S. investments, totaling over $23 billion since 2020.
