New Furnace to Enhance Spirits Segment
O-I Glass has announced a significant investment of approximately $150 million to transform its manufacturing plant in Alloa, Scotland, UK. The project will convert the plant into a technologically advanced facility, significantly reducing carbon dioxide (CO₂) emissions. A key part of this transformation includes the installation of a new furnace aimed at improving the company’s Spirits segment.
Sustainability and Advanced Technology Integration
The company’s two-year plan involves a comprehensive rebuild of the existing furnace, incorporating advanced technology and sustainability measures such as gas-oxy combustion and increased use of renewable energy and recycled glass. In addition to the rebuild, O-I Glass is constructing a new furnace with similar technological advancements to enhance operational flexibility and support growth in the Spirits segment.
Commitment to Reduced CO₂ Emissions
These upgrades align with O-I Glass’s updated sustainability roadmap and capital spending plan, addressing anticipated market demand. The company aims to reduce its CO₂ emissions by 25% by 2030. Both furnaces are expected to be operational in 2025, playing a crucial role in achieving this environmental goal.
