Toyota Announces Major Investment in Texas Plant

San Antonio, TX – June 24, 2024 – Toyota Motor North America has announced a significant $531-million expansion to its San Antonio, Texas assembly plant. This ambitious project will see the addition of a 500,000-square-foot facility dedicated to the production of new drivetrain parts. As part of this expansion, the automaker will create 400 new jobs, further solidifying its commitment to the local community and the U.S. economy.

Enhancing Manufacturing Capabilities

The San Antonio plant, operational since 2002, has primarily focused on vehicle assembly. With this new investment, Toyota aims to enhance the plant’s flexibility and manufacturing capabilities by incorporating advanced technologies for drivetrain parts production. This strategic move is part of Toyota’s broader plan to diversify its manufacturing capabilities across North America.

Commitment to U.S. Operations

Toyota’s decision to expand its Texas operations underscores its ongoing commitment to reinvesting profits in the U.S. The automaker emphasized that this project reaffirms its dedication to supporting and growing its North American operations. In 2023, Toyota Motor Manufacturing Texas produced 181,000 vehicles, including Tundra pickup trucks and Sequoia SUVs. With this latest investment, Toyota’s total investments in the Texas plant now exceed $4.7 billion.
